Mark Rave - 2020 PRORIDER Watercraft Magazine Interview

“Back in the day, a friend of mine, Mike, had a few too many hulls lying around, and I gladly offered to take one off his hands. As I started stripping it down and cleaning out the engine bay, I decided to go for an old-school graphic style with a fresh twist. Not long after, I glanced at my 1995 550 SX, which I had bought brand new with custom hand-painted checkerboard graphics, and thought, ‘Let’s replicate that and add some 80s flair.’

I remember the first time I tried jet skiing back in 1987 in Mazatlán, Mexico, on a rented 550. I enjoyed it so much that as soon as I returned to Minnesota, I bought my own 650 SX, and two years later, I upgraded to the 1995 550 SX, which I still have 30 years later. There’s something about the lightweight of the 550 that makes carving the water and freestyle tricks so much fun."

About three and a half years ago, I found my calling in Central Florida, restoring, building, and selling these skis like they’re brand new. Most of my clients are folks who say, ‘I remember back in the day, and I want one for my kids and grandkids to ride.’ Vintage 550s are back, and with the help of dedicated enthusiasts, we’re making sure that the parts that are getting scarce are still available. The community is growing, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Continuing His Legacy

As his wife and son, we are profoundly grateful for the love and support that has surrounded us during this time. The stories, memories, and messages shared about him have brought us more comfort than words can express. We are still navigating this new chapter, learning how to move forward without him physically here.. but his spirit, his passion, and his drive, lives on in everything he built and in all of you.

Though we are still finding our footing, we are committed to continuing the projects and the passion he started. This is more than a business to us, it is his legacy, and now ours to carry forward with care and intention.
